Seriously, it was awesome. Friday I went out with Stine to dinner at LP, as the cool kids call it. Las Palmas for those of us that aren't cool. We then watched Borat, and it was...pretty harsh. Funny as all hell but not quite what I expected. There's just something about those type of movies, like Jackass, that they're really funny, but they're not the type of movies you can watch over and over. Clerks, Office Space, Dirty Work, I can watch those and crack up over and over again. But I digress, we watched the movie and just had a great time catching up. Hell, even the drive out to Westmont was fun. I don't want to sound like I'm bragging but I love my car. Love, love, love it. I pretty much decided on Becky by default. After watching Clerks II the other night, I remembered that Rosario's character was named Becky. It fits. It came to mind when I got her. It's stickin'. I don't know, it's just nice to have music playing, a smooth ride, and a reliable car in this cold weather. I'm just so used to dealing with problematic cars that it is really nice to not have to worry. Not that my Jeep was all that much trouble, but with older cars you've always got that concern in the back of your mind.
Saturday. Saturday was my dad's birthday, which I knew all week but I somehow forgot about that morning. I was stressed out most of the day. My phone's dying, hell it's pretty much dead, and I went to the Sprint store to look for a new phone. Not only did they have me wait to be helped, but when I was taken care of, they told me the phone I wanted was sold out. Thanks for nothing. Furthermore, my contract's up New Year's, and I guess that's when I can get the 150 off as opposed to 75 off, they wouldn't budge eventhough I had less than a month to go. Needless to say I was pissed off. I pick up my mom and take her to Swedish Bakery to get my dad a cake. The place was packed, our number was like 87 and they were on 50 when we came in. But whatta ya gonna do? We waited it out, I got some cookies and we took off. Of course the usual family gathering politics occurred. Person X won't show up because person Z's going to be there. Or person Y can't come because she's hanging out with A and B. Whatever. It was a nice little gathering. At some point I called Sprint customer service. Still aggro and ready to cancel my account. I've been with them for years, but I was ready to send them to hell. I tore a couple of people a new one and ended up getting the phone pretty much for free and something off my next bill. How's that saying go about the squeaky wheel?
After the party I went out south to meet a couple of friends. We went drinking by the University of Chicago. I can't remember the name of the spot, Wildwood, Westwood Tap, something like that. Whatever it was, it doesn't really matter. What does matter is that the bartenders there have heavy pours. Very nice. Very, very nice. Inexpensive, divey feel, I liked'd it a lot. It was a really nice night, for lots of reasons, some which I won't get into, but I'm pretty happy right now. Just don't want to jinx it.
I crashed until 11-ish today, had a snack, settled into football mode. How about those games today. Shit, the Denver/Seattle game going on right now is awesome. 20-20 with 22 seconds left in regulation. The Bears game kicked ass, well at least our special teams and defense did. Seattle just won with a fifty yarder. The Cowboys beat New York with a Gramatica 46 yarder, what a story that is. Parcells X's out Vanderjagt and it ends up winning him the game. Oh and the Titans beat the Colts with a long field goal. You gotta love it. Did I mention the Bears clinched the NFC North? Good times. During all this madness, I somehow managed to clean up my desk area and catch up on some paperwork. I'm on a roll. A body in motion tends to stay in motion.
Alright, I'm going to bed, smiling...haven't done that in a while.
